Red Rocks Handicap Access & Seating Guide

Red Rocks handicap access is important for disabled guests and their families when attending ticketed events at this stunning open-air amphitheatre. The good news is that disabled visitors will find several accessibility features at the venue to accommodate their needs.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre, located just outside Denver, Colorado, is one of the best and most spectacular music venues in Colorado and boasts more than 9,000 seats. Though several provisions have been made for disabled guests, visitors with special needs and their families should familiarize themselves with the venue’s accommodations before setting out for an event.

Wheelchair-Accessible Seating Accommodations

Rows 1 and 70 are wheelchair accessible. You must select an accessible seat at the point of purchase. If you purchase a regular ticket and later develop a need for accessible seating, contact the same point of purchase to ask for an exchange. Please note that exchanging regular seats for wheelchair-accessible seats is subject to availability and isn't guaranteed.

Friends or family visiting the arena with a wheelchair user can either sit behind the wheelchair or request folding chairs to sit right next to their friend or family member. Guests can purchase a maximum of three companion seats with an accessible seat, pending availability. Because accessible spaces are limited, purchasing accessible seats early is advised.

Can I Rent a Wheelchair at the Venue?

Red Rocks Amphitheatre doesn't offer wheelchairs for rent. Visiting guests from outside of Denver, Colorado might consider power wheelchair rentals for their stay. We offer delivery to any address in the city of Denver, so you can pick up your wheelchair or motorized scooter rental at the venue or your accommodation.

Limited Mobility

Some guests may require accessible accommodations due to limited mobility but don't need a wheelchair space. If that's the case, seats 6-23 in rows 2 and 3 are reserved for visitors with limited mobility. Select “limited mobility” seating when you purchase your tickets to guarantee your seats.

Other Accessibility Accommodations

The Red Rocks Amphitheatre also welcomes guests with other disabilities and provides some accommodations:

Visitors Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Guests who are deaf or hard of hearing are encouraged to select seats in rows 2 and 3 between seat numbers 14 and 21 at the point of purchase. Guests can request an ASL interpreter or reserve an assistive listening device by emailing the venue at least seven days before the ticketed event.

Blind or Low-Vision Guests

The same rows 2-3, seats 14-21 can be selected by guests with low vision or who are blind. The venue has two I-MAG screens, located on either side of the stage, that magnify a live video of most events as well as display important messages. These screens can be seen from anywhere in the venue.

Accessible Parking

There are two fully paved parking lots at the venue with permanent accessible spaces for disabled guests:

Top Circle Lot: This lot accommodates up to 23 vehicles for visitors with disabilities. Each accessible parking space has access aisles next to the space. This designated accessible parking is reserved for guests with tickets in Row 70. Guests with mobility problems should reach the lot via Park Entrance 1, West Alameda Parkway, although you can reach the Top Circle Lot from any of the four park entrances.

Upper South Lot: This parking lot accommodates up to 30 accessible vehicles and also features access aisles. From here, you can reach the amphitheatre via the accessible shuttle which will leave you at a graded wheelchair ramp up to rows 1-3. The Upper South Lot is most easily reached through Park Entrance 3, Red Rocks Park Road to Ship Rock Road.

Drivers who wish to use the accessible parking spaces at the venue may be asked to provide their credentials to avoid misuse of these spaces.

Accessible Restrooms

There are accessible restrooms in the following locations:

  • Row 1 patrons: There are accessible restrooms to the left and right of the stage, at the North Concession Stand and on the South ramp.

  • Row 70 patrons: There are accessible family restrooms adjacent to Row 70 at the top of the amphitheatre.

  • Visitor Center: There are accessible restrooms in the Visitor Center. Patrons can reach the Visitor Center via an elevator that is situated inside the plaza level entrance.

Concession Stands

There are concession stands located near both accessible rows (1 and 70). Patrons can ask staff members for assistance if they would like to buy food or beverages.

Other Considerations for Disabled Guests

The unique nature of Red Rocks Amphitheatre makes attending an event an unforgettable experience. However, it also presents some potential challenges for guests with special needs.

Places to Stay in Colorado

Severalhandicap-friendly resorts in and around Colorado accommodate disabled and wheelchair-bound guests. If you're visiting Red Rocks as part of a vacation or longer stay, these resorts and hotels could be a great starting point for the activities you'll enjoy in the Grand Canyon State.

Elevation at Red Rocks

Red Rocks is located at around 6,450 feet (nearly 2000m) above sea level. Guests who aren't used to higher elevations should keep in mind that walking might be more tiring than usual.

This is also the case if you're going with somebody who uses a manual wheelchair or transport chair. Pushing the chair around the venue may be harder than usual, so it may be best to use or rent a power wheelchair. Always ask an event staff member for assistance if you need it.

Book Accessible Seats Early to Avoid Disappointment

To ensure the best and most comfortable experience at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, disabled guests or people with limited mobility should book as early as possible to guarantee their seats and avoid disappointment. Remember to select accessible seats at the point of purchase and get in touch with the venue if your needs change for any reason.

It is also important to note that this iconic venue has been upgraded in recent years to make it more accessible for wheelchair users. As long as you research the venue’s current accessibility features beforehand, communicate any additional needs well in advance of the event, and go prepared, you should have a wonderful time!
